The Beetle is many anglers and guides top choice for terrestrial patterns. It imitates a variety of land bugs including, of course, the common beetle which is found everywhere in the country. The orange back helps out in a big way with visibility. In rivers with downed trees and overhanging branches, beetles work best. These bugs often crawl on natural structures and fall into the water. Twitching these fishing flies during a dead drift can help to draw more strikes from trout. If you could only have one terrestrial pattern, a beetle is an excellent choice.
