The Black Birds Nest is a fairly universal trout fly that can be fished on small creeks and big tailwaters. This pattern is effective for imitating caddis flies and mayflies. When black caddis are hatching a well swung or well dead drifted Black Birds Nest is nearly impossible for fish to refuse. Most anglers find the best success fishing these flies below an indicator, or swinging across the riffles or runs. Regardless of how you fish it, the Black Birds Nest will bring fish to the net.
